Both Michael Shank Racing entries had strong finishes in the Bosch Engineering 250 at VIR on Sunday as John Pew and Ian James teamed in the No. 6 Ford-Riley to come home fourth while Mark Patterson and Oswaldo Negri combined to move to third in the unofficial Rolex Team Championship standings with a ninth place result.

Michael Shank Racing will start the 46th Rolex 24 At Daytona from the front row with both team entries after Oswaldo Negri set a Daytona Prototype track record in qualifying. AJ Allmendinger will start alongside in the sister No. 6 Michael Shank Racing Ford-Riley entry after setting a fast lap time just .009 seconds adrift of Negri.
1/17/2008 - Pew and Patterson Confirm Trueman Award Entry
Full-season Michael Shank Racing drivers John Pew and Mark Patterson confirmed their entry on Thursday as combatants for the 2008 Grand-Am Trueman Award in Rolex Sports Car Series competition. The award is a form of championship within a championship, and is awarded to the gentleman driver with the best race results, which are multiplied by the miles completed by the driver through the course of the season.

Columbus, OH - Michael Shank Racing team owner Mike Shank announced today that his two-car Daytona Prototype team will utilize Ford power for the 2008 Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve season. John Pew nearly matched the best qualifying result of his young Rolex career on Thursday, taking the Playboy-liveried Michael Shank Racing Lexus-Riley to ninth on the grid for Friday nights Crown Royal 200 at Watkins Glen. The sister Lexus-Riley of Mark Patterson and Oswaldo Negri will start the shortest race of the Rolex Sports Car Series from eleventh on the Daytona Prototype-only grid.

Leeds, AL-Despite a hectic run of races through the hot summer season, Michael Shank Racing continues to put precious Rolex Sports Car Series championship points in the bank with both team Lexus-Riley entries. Sunday’s Porsche 250 at Barber Motorsports Park marked the third Rolex race in as many weekends for Michael Shank Racing, and the team once again responded with strong results as Mark Patterson and Oswaldo Negri finished sixth, just ahead of Ian James and John Pew in seventh.

John Pew will not be able to defend his championship this season due to a recurring shoulder injury that has hampered his racing for the last two events. At Road America, Pew arrived with an aggravated shoulder injury that has bothered him since mid-season.

I arrived Tuesday night at Mosport with an injured shoulder and I was not sure if I would drive at all. My shoulder has been bothering my all summer while racing, but it usually only started to hurt after the last day and would get better between race weekends.

Trois-Rivieres is one of Star Mazda's best venues of the year. It's a fun track and the fans are unbelievable. The race started well for me as I got around some cars and a crash on the first lap. It continued to go well for 23 laps.

What was going to be a great qualifying run was cut short and put me towards the back with an engine problem. This was my worst qualifying position in my entire Mazda career. 30th out of 33. The Velocity team found the engine problem and I was getting psyched for a run towards the front.

I am fairly happy with the result at Miller Motorsports Park considering the poor qualifying we had. An engine and clutch glitch showed up in qualifying which relegated us to the 24th spot on the grid for the start.

01/16/2006 - Winter Testing with Velocity Motorsports in Sebring, Florida * - Prospect Hill, NC- The Velocity Motorsports team recently completed a very successful test in Sebring, Florida. This was a test for teams competing in several formula car series. Several of the top Star-Mazda teams from the 2005 season were present for the test. Returning to the team for the test was 2005 Star Mazda Masters Champion John Pew.

10/21/2005 - Class Championship for Velocity* - The season ending race for the 2005 Star Mazda Championship was held at the appropriately named Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA. The Velocity Motorsports team returned to the track that one year ago marked the beginning of the pro series effort with drivers Mark Patterson, John Pew and Phil Saville. With a full season of competition under the team’s belts, they were focused on securing the Master Series Class Championship with driver John Pew.

10/16/2005 - John Pew Captures Masters Championship at Laguna
In the Masters Championship, for drivers aged 45 and older, John Pew driving the NVG Velocity Motorsports Mazda finished third to capture the Championship and 15th overall with 188 points over defending champion John Faulkner in his Peregrine Motorsports Mazda. 09/30/2005 - John Flies at Road Atlanta
In the Masters Championship, John Pew driving the Velocity Motorsports Mazda, captured his fourth victory of the season to maintain his grip on the points lead with 174 points while John Faulkner in the Peregrine Motorsports Mazda would finish second in class and points with 167. Doug Peterson, who entered the weekend third in points, would finish seventh on the day and fall out of championship contention.

09/05/2005 - Mosport* - The Velocity Motorsports Team came to the Mosport Circuit in Canada a week prior to the race weekend for a couple of days of testing. Driver John Pew completed over 550 miles around the ultra-fast circuit. During the test, the team continued to rebuild Phil Saville’s car after the accident at Road America. The test was a success as Pew and the crew worked on car setups for the race weekend.
